THE HORMEL INSTITUTE
The Hormel Institute, University of MN, was established in 1942 by Jay C. Hormel (of Hormel Foods Corp.) in a philanthropic gesture to help the health of the world through medical research. Today The Hormel Institute is a world leader in cancer prevention research through study of food agents & cell functions. Through its collaborations with Mayo Clinic and IBM, The Hormel Institute is for great achievements in biochemistry/research technology. The mission of The Hormel Institute is to conduct research and provide education in the biological sciences with applications in medicine and agriculture. In pursuit of this mission, and as intended by its founders, The Hormel Institute generates fundamental knowledge and disseminates it to the scientific community worldwide. It also serves as a center of technical and educational expertise for the benefit of the Austin community, the surrounding region and the State of Minnesota.The Hormel Institute is dedicated to research leading to the elimination of cancer through its focus on what will prevent, control and cure this devastating disease. The vision for the medical research of The Hormel Institute has one outcome: enhance and improve human health.
